Big, Bright Smiles in the Big, Bright City

On July 12th we got a Taiko drumming lesson, experiencing this traditional Japanese art form from a professional. After, we explored Harajuku, the land of lights, kawaii characters, and anime. While there, different groups of us visited unique cafes, like an otter cafe and a cat cafe. We carried on to see Senso-ji, one of the most famous spots in Japan. Later, we went to Tokyo Dome for a baseball game and cheered for the Tokyo Giants as they played the Hiroshima Carp. The final score was 2-0 with a win for the Carps. Better luck next time Giants!

On July 13th, some of us started our day early at 4:45am to view a tuna auction at the biggest fish market in the world. Around 10am, everyone went to the Suginami Animation Museum where we saw photos of the animation process, attempted to do voiceovers, and more. For lunch, we had two options. The first was to go to Akihabara, a shopping hub, or go to Kappabashi Dougu Street which is a shopping street associated with supplying restaurants. After lunch, we took a manga drawing lesson. Before dinner we explored Shinjuku, a bustling and bright city of Tokyo. We had a delicious hotpot (Nabezo Shinjuku Sanchome) for dinner. Finally, we ended our day at the iconic Shibuya Crossing! We scrambled our way through the frenzy of walkers. It’s been so fun exploring all that Tokyo has to offer.

We look forward to savoring these next few final days we have together in Japan.
