Exploring Kyoto While Wearing Kimonos

This post contains student writing.
On July 6th, we started off our day by heading to a Samurai museum, where we learned about the rich history of Japan’s war, hierarchy, and weaponry. After that, we had lunch in an iconic street market in Kyoto, which contained a wide variety of authentic Japanese dishes. Once lunch was over, we rented traditional Kimonos and learned how to wear them properly and respectfully. As we sported the vibrant and intricately patterned attire, we explored various temples and pagodas like ‘Kennin-Ji’. After a fun-filled day of great local food and interesting cultural experiences, we got a good night’s sleep for the next day!
Today on July 7th, we journeyed to Universal Studios Japan and Super Nintendo World. We had to make sure to get there early for tickets because it would sell out so fast! We split into separate groups and adventured around the park. We yelled and laughed on a range of rides, some favorites being Jurassic Park, Spiderman, and Mario Kart. After a very long day, we ended by eating dinner in the famous Kyoto Station. We look forward to heading up toward the peaceful mountains of Japan next!
